FAQ's
What is the goal of the NTTL?
The goal for NTTL is to provide alternative lacrosse play to High School age players who desire to participate in local tournaments, as a way to increase their skills and play a variety of lacrosse talent.
Who can play for NTTL?
Any High School age player, with their own equipment, who is near enough to attend scheduled practices and is willing to travel can play for NTTL.
Are there tryouts for NTTL?
No, however, the team is not entirely a "walk on" team. We are looking for players with dedicated parents who understand that in order for their player to be successful, it is necessary for them to dedicate a portion of their time to their children's success. We typically recruit players who would normally play in the D2 and D3 THSLL divisions, who are looking to improve their game play, but are not being afforded the opportunity in their local club as a starter. We recognize that there is a lot of high school talent playing for local clubs, that if given the right opportunity, could shine and become an outstanding player.
How many teams are there at NTTL?
Currently, we only have a High School team.
How much does it cost to join NTTL?
There is no fee to join NTTL at present. However, do not mistake that for free. You will have uniform costs, US Lacrosse membership dues, possibly equipment purchases, tournament entry fees and travel/lodging fees.
Are there any other costs associated with playing for NTTL?
The organization attends local and out of town tournaments. Each player is responsible to pay his own way for travel, food and lodging at the time of the travel event, approximately $150 per trip. He is also responsible to pay his portion of the tournament registration fee for a team, usually around $20 to $50 per tournament (depending upon the number of players on the roster).
Where does NTTL play?
The team travels to Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana, within a 300 mile radius from Plano, TX, Houston, College Station, Plano, Dallas, Richardson & Mesquite.
Can I play THSLL for the Spring season for my school while playing for NTTL?
Yes.
How many tournaments does NTTL play?
We currently have 8 identified tournaments but that will vary based on player availability.
How often does NTTL travel out of area?
Our travel plan will be to travel out of area every other month, again, depending upon player availability.
Does NTTL attend any Lacrosse camps as a team?
No, that is cost prohibitive for our club at this time.
Does NTTL ever attend any of the major Lacrosse tournaments in Baltimore or elsewhere?
Not at this time. The costs to attend these tournaments is usually cost prohibitive considering the main focus of this organization.
I had heard there are hidden fees. Is this true? What are the costs?
Absolutely not! NTTL has always posted the actual costs of our program. And since we do not pay anyone on our board or our coaches we return 100% of the club money back into the program. Our program has always split the costs of everything it does, equally across the rostered players. All players are required to have a valid US Lacrosse membership and that is $35 per player. Tournaments are usually about $500 per team so that's $25 for each tournament. Each player is required to have a matching uniform so first time players add $40. Away travel lodging and food is handled by each family and that usually runs about $75 per night.
What experience does the coaching staff have?
Our head coach has over 15 years of actual coaching experience at both the junior and high school level. He was a baseball coach for 2 years, a baseball umpire for 9 years, he was on the board and the head umpire of the baseball league of over 2000 kids for 1 year, he coached basketball for 2 years, he coached football for 7 years in which he took his team to the championship game 3 times and won 2 of those. He was the Vice President for 2 years of a football league in Virginia, which had over 800 players, he was the President of Wylie Lacrosse for 1 year, he has been coaching lacrosse for 2 years and he has completed the US Lacrosse certification course taught by Alex Poole (head coach of SMU) and Tom Fitzsimmons (US Lacrosse North Texas Chapter President).
Our Assistant coach has been playing lacrosse for over 4 years and has been coaching for 2 years, he has also completed the US Lacrosse certification course taught by Alex Poole (head coach of SMU) and Tom Fitzsimmons (US Lacrosse North Texas Chapter President).
The best indicator of a coaches experience is in the players being produced, the stability of the club and the overall record for each season. We think that we are producing the best players to come out of Wylie and have been doing that for the last 3 years.
Is anyone on the board or coaching staff on the payroll?
No, our members are committed to the youth of the community and therefore they have rejected the need to get paid.
Where does NTTL travel to play games?
We have participated in tournaments in the following cities: Plano, Richardson, Colleyville, Southlake, College Station (2 nights), Houston (2 nights) and Shreveport, LA (1 night).
Do I have to travel to all of the tournaments if I am on the NTTL roster?
No, prior to each tournament, the club will define a roster of players who desire to go to the tournament. You can decide which tournaments to participate in, that best suits your individual situation.
